Technical part
Beyond a one-off prototype: the part must work inside a system (machine, equipment, vehicle) with service life criteria and sometimes standards. Clear constraint definition avoids an unsuitable material choice.
Outdoor exposure (UV, weather): see the project page 3D-printed outdoor parts — constraints and solutions.

Specification
Document temperature, fluids in contact, loads, space constraints, and expected finish. These drive material and post-processing. For sensitive topics (food contact, regulated environments), state it on the first exchange via the contact page.
Service and validation
A supplier may propose several materials and settings; this site helps you phrase a usable request. Cross-check with how to choose a material and, if heat is critical, the heat-resistant material guide.
Long-term behaviour
Maintenance, re-torquing, ageing: a technical part must stay within tolerances over time. Plan maintenance access and inspection points in the design.
